Marine Engineering at the Cape May - Lewes Ferry

At the Cape May–Lewes Ferry, our Marine Engineering team plays a vital role in keeping the fleet operating safely, efficiently, and reliably every day of the year. Working in close partnership with our captains and deck crews, our engineers oversee every aspect of vessel functionality—from propulsion, navigation, and steering systems to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and auxiliary equipment. Their expertise ensures that each crossing is smooth, comfortable, and secure for every passenger and crew member on board.

Behind the scenes, our engineers combine technical mastery with an unwavering commitment to maintenance excellence. From conducting rigorous inspections to performing complex repairs and overseeing major modernization projects, this team is responsible for keeping our vessels performing at peak levels. Their work includes managing advanced electrical and mechanical systems, troubleshooting real-time operational challenges, and implementing new technologies that improve efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability across the fleet.

We are proud to introduce three key members of our engineering leadership: Port Engineer Mike Lynch, Assistant Port Engineer Ed Dankievitch, and Marine Vessel Maintenance Manager Don Miller. Collectively, they bring decades of experience, U.S. Coast Guard–recognized licensure, and an impressive range of advanced technical certifications. Their dedication reflects the spirit of the entire Marine Engineering department—skilled professionals who take pride in their craft and ensure the Ferry remains one of the most reliable, well-maintained marine operations on the East Coast.
